The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) funded Security and Justice Programme will continue the Integrated Programme for Strengthening Security and Justice’s dual focus of tackling criminal violence and other causes of public insecurity, in particular gender-based violence and strengthening the service delivery capacity of the Nepal Police and other key duty-bearers. UNOPS helps strengthen the government's response to gender-based violence in Nepal. Through the Strengthening Systems to Protect and Uplift Women -project UNOPS hopes to provide long-term rehabilitation for survivors; fill gaps in availability of survivor-centric and gender equality and social inclusion Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI)-sensitive infrastructure within the Nepal Police to ensure safe, confidential, and respectful environments for reporting cases; build service providers' capacity; and increase awareness on gender-based violence prevention and available services. The project is aligned with the government's vision of a Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali, which envisions a society without discrimination, violence, or crime.\n

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is responsible for coordinating responses to environmental issues within the United Nations system.\nUNOPS offers human resources and contract management support to UNEP.\n

The 'Cities 4 Women: Inclusive and Climate-Resilient Urbanization in Nepal' project is jointly implemented by UNOPS, UN-Habitat and Cities Alliance. With funding from the European Union and the government of Finland, the project is guided by the steering committee led by Nepal's Ministry of Urban Development.\n\nThe project focuses on inclusive and climate-resilient urbanization in seven municipalities of Nepal: Birendranagar, Chandragiri, Dhanghadi, Hetauda, Sunwal, Tansen and Tilottama as well as sub-metropolitan cities. The overarching strategy is to strengthen institutions with capacity building and tools for transformative, resilient and sustainable urbanization with a goal to mainstream gender into urban planning, design and budgeting.

UNOPS in partnership with Cities Alliance, UN-Habitat, and the European Union, promote Inclusive and Climate Resilient urbanization in Nepal.\n\nThe project aims to promote women’s leadership and participation in decision-making at the local level, support the development of gender-inclusive city strategies, and drive demonstrative pilot actions. \nThis includes the following: \nA Policy review to support the creation of a gender-inclusive framework for Nepal’s National Urban Development Strategy (NUDS), \nTo promote women’s leadership and participation in decision-making at the local level and to support the transformative action of the women leaders in five municipalities. Co-finance Proof of Concept projects t support the creation of pilot spatial interventions dedicated to women through a participatory process, topping up the municipal annual budgets (co-financing). Knowledge Management to foster exchange and cross-fertilization between the five cities, Academia, and governmental Knowledge Institutions, regarding gender-inclusive and climate-resilient city strategies\n\n
