How to apply CV and motivation letter to nepal@peacebrigades.org

  1. Background

Peace Brigades International (PBI) Nepal works to strengthen the protection, capacity, agency and collective power of human rights defenders (HRDs) in Nepal, with particular attention to women human rights defenders (WHRDs) and other defenders facing heightened risks and structural barriers.

PBI Nepal is commissioning an independent evaluation of one of its partner's projects in Madhesh Province. The evaluation is outcome-oriented: it looks at what has changed, how and why change occurred, who benefited most, and what should be sustained or strengthened going forward.

To conduct this evaluation, PBI Nepal is recruiting a female consultant belonging to Madhesh Province to serve as Co-Evaluator, working alongside an external Lead Evaluator.

  1. Purpose of the Role

The Co-Evaluator will work as a core member of the evaluation team, contributing local contextual knowledge, language skills and facilitation capacity throughout the assignment.

Specifically, the role is intended to

  • Create safe spaces. Participants will be discussing sensitive protection concerns, personal security, family and community pressures. A female co-evaluator helps ensure that women participants can speak openly, comfortably and without hesitation.
  • Preserve linguistic nuance. Candid reflection, emotional expression and uninhibited storytelling happen most naturally in local languages – primarily Maithili in central and eastern Madhesh and Bhojpuri in the west. Facilitating directly in these languages avoids the loss of meaning that comes with formal translation.
  • Navigate caste and power dynamics. A locally rooted researcher brings the contextual awareness needed to ensure that participants from marginalised communities have a genuine voice in discussions, including in mixed or hierarchical group settings.
  • Enable field efficiency. Knowledge of local routes, community networks and district dynamics will make a short field window substantially more productive.

The Co-Evaluator will not be responsible for developing the evaluation design, methodology or technical proposal – these will be led by the Lead Evaluator. The role is focused on co-facilitation, local contextual insight, translation, data collection support and if needed co-analysis.
